Here is how to add business to Google Maps in the UAE or Saudi Arabia: create a free Google Business Profile at business.google.com/add, enter your business name, category and location (or the area you serve), then verify it with the method Google offers you. Google chooses the verification method itself, from a video recording, a phone or text code, email, a live video call or a postcard, and its review can take up to five business days. Listings that never show up usually fail on details rather than the form: a name stuffed with keywords, an address written three ways, a phone number that changed. The checker below catches those before you submit.
- It’s free. Google charges nothing to add or claim a business, and there is no way to pay for a better position on Maps.
- Google picks the verification method. You can’t change it; a postcard code usually arrives within 14 days and expires after 30.
- Your name must be your real-world name. No taglines, places, phone numbers, and no Arabic and English versions repeated side by side.
- No storefront? Hide your address. Businesses that go to their customers set a service area instead.
Check your details before you add business to Google Maps
Type your business name, address and phone exactly as they appear on Google, on your website and on one other listing, such as a directory or your Instagram bio. The checker flags what Google’s name guidelines rule out and compares the three listings, folding the differences that don’t change meaning: Arabic letter variants, abbreviations, +971 or +966 against a local 0.
How to add business to Google Maps, step by step
- Go to business.google.com/add and sign in with a Google account the business controls, not an employee’s personal one.
- Enter your business name exactly as it appears on your signage, invoices and website.
- Choose your primary category. Pick the one that describes what you are (“Dentist”), not a product you happen to promote.
- Add your location. A storefront that customers visit gets its address and a map pin. A business that travels to customers adds a service area and hides its address.
- Add a phone number and website. Use the number customers actually reach you on, written in international form.
- Verify. Choose from the options Google shows you and follow the steps.
- Complete the profile: opening hours, photos, services, and a description in the language your customers search in.
Already on Google Maps? Someone may have added your business before you. Search for its name and city on Google Maps, select “Claim this business”, then “Manage now”, and verify.
Verification: what to expect
Google decides which methods you can use, based on your business type, public information, region and hours, and they can’t be changed. Sometimes it asks for more than one.
| Method | What Google says |
|---|---|
| Video recording | Recommended if your business is eligible for it |
| Phone or text | A code by call or SMS. Automated phone systems (IVR) won’t receive it |
| A code sent to the email shown | |
| Live video call | Not available to every business, and only within your business hours |
| Postcard | Not available to every business. Most codes arrive within 14 days and expire after 30. Don’t edit the name, address or category while you wait |
After you submit, Google’s review takes up to five business days, occasionally longer. Verification can be instant if you have already verified your website in Google Search Console.
Business name rules: where most Gulf listings go wrong
Google’s rule is that your name should reflect your real-world name, used consistently on your storefront, website and stationery, and that adding anything else can get your profile suspended. Its guidelines list what the name must not include:
| Not allowed | Breaks the rule | Follows it |
|---|---|---|
| Marketing taglines and service words | Example Dental Clinic, Best Dentist in Town | Example Dental Clinic |
| Location information | Example Cafe Dubai Marina | Example Cafe |
| Phone numbers or website addresses | Example Cars 050 000 0000 | Example Cars |
| Business hours | Example Pharmacy 24 Hours | Example Pharmacy |
| Fully capitalised words | EXAMPLE TRADING | Example Trading |
| Special characters and irrelevant legal terms | Example | Trading LLC | Example Trading (unless your signage shows otherwise) |
| Trademark signs | Example® | Example |
| The same name repeated in two languages | مثال للتجارة Example Trading | One of them |
The last row trips up many businesses in the Gulf, where signage often shows both. Google’s guidelines rule it out even when the sign itself is bilingual, so choose the name your customers search for. Special characters and legal terms such as LLC are allowed only if you can show them consistently on real-world proof, such as signage or invoices.
Address and phone: write them the same everywhere
Customers copy what they see, and Google compares what it finds across the web. Pick one way of writing your address and phone and use it on your profile, website and every directory.
- Phone: the international form, +971 or +966, the same number everywhere. A different mobile on one listing sends some calls to the wrong person.
- Address: the same building name, unit number and street, in the same order. “Sheikh Zayed Rd” and “SZR” are the same to a person but look different on a page.
- Name: without “LLC” or “Est.” on one listing and with it on another, unless they appear on your signage.
How Google decides who shows first on Maps
Google’s help page puts it plainly: local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and popularity. Relevance is how well a profile matches the search; distance is how far the business is from the person searching. The third factor, which Google’s subheading calls prominence, is how well known a business is, including how many websites link to it and how many reviews it has. Google adds that there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking.
What you can influence
- A complete profile: the right category, hours, photos, services and description.
- Reviews: ask happy customers to leave one, and reply to every review, good or bad.
- A website that confirms the profile: the same name, address and phone, and a page for each location.
- Fast replies: calls and messages from Maps are leads. Our speed to lead guide shows what slow replies cost.

Questions and answers
Is it free to add my business to Google Maps?
Yes. Google charges nothing to add or claim a business, and you can’t pay for a better ranking on Maps.
How long does Google Business Profile verification take?
Google says reviews take up to five business days, and occasionally longer. If you verify by postcard, most codes arrive within 14 days and expire after 30.
Can I add my business to Google Maps without an address?
Yes, if you serve customers at their location. Set up a service-area profile: Google asks service-area businesses to hide their address and list the areas they serve.
Can my Google Maps business name be in Arabic and English?
Not both in one name. Google’s guidelines don’t allow the same name repeated in two languages or scripts, even if your sign shows both. Choose the name customers know you by.
Why is my business not showing on Google Maps?
It may still be under review, the verification may be incomplete, or the profile may break a guideline, such as extra words in the name. Once live, it competes on relevance, distance and popularity for each search.
Can I choose how to verify my business?
No. Google determines the methods available to you based on your business type, region and other details, and they can’t be changed.
